Adirondack Park is a good six million acres of beautiful, mountainous forests and home to the eastern United States' most famous ski slopes. Lake Placid, site of the 1932 and the 1980 Winter Olympic Games is still a treasure on the Canadian Border.
Regularly visited by Royal Holiday travelers for more than 20 years, it’s an annual retreat and a regular sojourn for some of the most seasoned travelers in the club. Cool, high altitude temperatures, dreamy mountain lakes and lots of surrounding history, culture and deep unexplored territory make it a soul-affirming and rejuvenating destination.
The Alpine style village of Lake Placid boasts fun local shopping, plenty of places to eat and a whole slew of activities for the whole family. In Winter, in addition to the excellent downhill skiing, there are also plenty of facilities for skating, snowshoeing, cross country and chances to see athletes from all over training for the next Olympics where ever they may be in the world.
The surrounding 46 Adirondack High Peaks, rivers full of fish, fresh water lakes for kayaking and canoeing as well as acres and acres of room for biking and hiking make it, always, a real outdoor experience. 13 Lake Placid regional golf courses include five signature championship layouts.
With year-round events and attractions and a unique cultural environment, Lake Placid is just about two hours from the airport in Burlington, Vermont. Some of the East Coast's most scenic and enchanting landscape, it’s a dramatic, outdoorsy, vacation destination that’s worth a week or more no matter when you plan on going.
